Here is the story we will be working on:
A thousand years ago a great fire rained down from the stars. Among the falling stars were seven uniquely colored stones the size of a persons head. These meteorite chunks granted the possessor of the stone unique abilities. The tribes of the time crafted these pieces into masks that reflected the culture of their society and the power granted by the artifact. The seven tribal leaders of the time came together in peace to form a republic of nations. Saying that these gifts from the heavens were a sign that there should be peace. Each tribe granted the power of these masks to their bravest warriors, brilliant scholars, wisest elders or greatest minds.
The power of these masks helped to develop the tribes into various specialties that the tribes freely traded between one another. There was great prosperity in the Seven Kingdoms and the Republic's peace was strong. As the centuries went by the lore of the masks grew. It was widely believed that the spirits of the bearers were absorbed into the mask after the owners passing. It seemed as if nothing could disrupt the tranquility.
A great force appeared from beyond the Seven's borders. A warlord, known only as The Oppressor, began to wage war on the Republic for the power of these masks. The Oppressor believed that if he controlled the power of these masks he could conquer the entire world.
As The Oppressor pushed into the heart of the Republic, village after village fell into this new, darker Imperium. The best warriors from each land were conscripted into service in The Oppressor's army. As the army forced it's way into the heart of the kingdom the warriors of the Moon-Clan tried to defend the capital of the Republic. The clan's greatest general and warrior fell defending the gates to the great city. His daughter assumed command and tried to rally the defenders but it was all for naught as the city was taken.
Because of her prowess in battle she was placed in high rank within The Oppressors army. After the capital fell many of the remaining tribes surrendered to the mercy of the army. Occasionally there was resistance but she always tried to preserve the lives of her countrymen. As she continued to help expand The Oppressors empire she was quickly promoted to the position of General.
Years had passed since The Oppressor had taken over the seven kingdoms but only one mask was ever recovered. The land began to lose hope under the crushing rule as The Oppressor grew impatient with the search for the powerful artifacts. The Oppressor decided to send his most decorated General to coerce the location of the masks from the former leadership of the old Republic.
When the daughter went to the East to follow a lead on one of the relics she found it hidden within a great maze. Trapped with magic and machines that tested her wit and wisdom she gained access to a sacred vault. When she grasped the mask she was shown a vision of the fate of the kingdom if she continued to help The Oppressor. Terrifying visions of villages being sacked and it's citizens enslaved. There was hope though, she saw herself in an armor of color. She wore the mask of the Moon-Rabbit and wielded the power of the seven tribes. The visions were so profound that she fell unconscious.
She awoke hours later laying on the floor of the vault. Her head throbbing from the intensity of the destiny laid out before her. As she emerged from the maze she saw that her army had destroyed the village and taken its citizens. When she had not returned for sometime the army had assumed that the village had trapped her within the maze and they wanted retribution. She caught up with the army and demanded the release of the citizens. The new commander of the force refused this order and stated that he would now be continuing this course of action in all the villages he encountered on the way back to the capital. To secure his new position of power he sentenced the girl to death and dispatched a dozen of his bodyguards to kill her.
After a grueling fight she emerged victorious. She again caught up with the army as they were beginning to assault another village. She could not stand aside and let these people suffer at the hands of this cruelty. She decided to wear the mask hoping that its power could aide her to save the village. As she ran toward the attackers dispatching foes left and right as she felt the more powerful and that a raw power was growing inside her. When she finally reached the commander the coward had taken a small child hostage to protect him.
As she stood there facing the commander with his human shield she imagined a creature that could save the child so she could eliminate the commander. She felt a whirlwind within her and suddenly a winged creature, the size of the child, appeared behind him. As she swung her weapon towards the commander the creature snatched the child away. The blow was a strong one and the commander fell. The winged creature let the child go and the pair continued to free the remaining villagers.
The girl and her new companion continued to fight back against the forces of The Oppressor. Along the way she learned that he had found another mask from one of the outlying kingdoms. The Oppressors power grew and so too did the size of his army. The girl had fought with her rebel force to free a city in the North. After the city had been liberated she learned, through the mask, that another relic was close. After discovering its location she found the mask and had it inserted into a piece of armor so she could gain its power of protection.
In the great industrial city a massive coup had drawn her attention. She rallied its citizens to fight and take back the bastion of technology. The battle was intense as her abilities and strength had grown incredibly. The massive battle took a toll on the city and its people. Eventually she won the battle with the help of her companion and the newly-freed populace.
As she continued her fight back to The Oppressor she acquired more masks. Having each one inserted into pieces of armor and a weapon she could became faster, stronger and smarter than she ever imagined. She also felt why The Oppressor wanted this power to himself and why the original bearers had decided to divide it between the seven tribes.
When she finally reached the capital both her and The Oppressor each possessed three masks. As the uprising fought through the streets of the capital The Oppressor and the girl fought for their respective sides searching for one another. She eventually finds herself in the temple of the Moon-Clan, The very site she buried her father. As she approached the temple her masks began to pull her towards a wall of ancient writings. The writings are strange but because of the power in her masks she can read the ancient language. Reading the words aloud she feels a great swelling of energy from within the temple. As she turns to face the inside of the temple the spectral form of her father appears. He tells his daughter that he was mask bearer and that he had hoped that one day she would inherit the mask from him. After the emotional moment she finds the final mask and goes to fulfill her destiny.
The battle between the her and The Oppressor is brutal. Because of their enhanced abilities there is no limit to the damage they can inflict on themselves and the city. Magic and metal meet in crippling attacks that would tear a normal person apart. The Oppressor soon gains the upper hand and is about to end her when the creature comes to her aide. The two warriors fight to push back The Oppressor and soon he is left defenseless and weakened. Instead of ending him she chooses the ultimate humiliation and lets him live, leaving him to be imprisoned with the rest of his routed army.
In the end she struggles to not join all seven masks together and install herself as a new ruler. She hears the masks and her father say that her time is done, for now, and that she should return to her clan and help rebuild the Republic. So the masks are again redistributed among the tribal leaders and the Republic is born anew.
